Tor on Android: How to browse anonymously

Browse anonymously with TOR on Android? It's possible.

we visit websites more data is collected about our identity and our online habits. Even from mobile phones, it is permanently tracked and profiled. If you want to reduce all data collected on your account and / or want to anonymously browse some inaccessible or blocked websites in your country, you can count on Tor and Firefox, also available as an Android application.

In this guide, we will see how to configure two free applications using TOR on Android.

Orbot: Proxy with Tor

The first app to download on our device is Orbot, which will allow you to configure a proxy connected to the tor network to use tor on Android.

The application is free and open source. We can download it from the following link.

REMOVED fasten

Once installed, you just need to press and hold the bow that will appear in the app interface. After a few minutes we will be connected to the tor on Android.

The application will establish a proxy on Android that is accessible through a specific port. The application will start and run by bouncing our connection between multiple nodes on the network, making it unintelligible. On the notification screen, we can see the number of rejections in the TOR network on Android that the application made.

We can get a new IP address automatically or choose which IP address we will get. In the side menu of the application, you simply have to choose which country you want to be.

Trying to navigate with any browser that already exists on the device, we were unable to connect, so for anonymous browsing using TOR on Android we will use a dedicated browser.

Orfox: Firefox has been modified to take full advantage of Tor

Orfox is a modified version of Firefox that is already pre-configured to exploit TOR on Android via Orbot. You simply need to let it run and download the browser from the Play Store to browse anonymously.

DOWNLOAD Orfox

Based on the source code of the TOR browser and Firefox, Orbot brings the best of both anonymous browsers to mobile devices. In addition to anonymous browsing, it also integrates NoScript and HTTPSEverywhere, two very useful extensions to increase navigation security.

Once Orfox browser is open, we use the verification page to check if we are under the tor network on Android.

Now we browse anonymously using tor on Android. I recommend DuckDuckGo, the only search engine that does not track users (and in our case, even if it did, it would only track an anonymous user in the TOR network).

Alternatives for PC

We can also use TOR to browse anonymously from computers using the TOR browser, as discussed in our previous guide.

In addition, in order to fully "protect" our connection, we can also count on a VPN: in our dedicated guide you will find all the necessary explanations and a list of the most reliable ones.

Some VPNs are also available for Android.
